I realized many international students have problems with coins in here.
They are curious about why there are no number on coin and why dimmer are smaller than nickel. I totally didn't realized it since I learn about coins by bitter experience. When I was secould grade in elementary school of America, during P.E class, one student approached me and asked me whether I can give some of money pointing a big coin on my palm. Of course, I said "no!" thinking why am I have to give her money even I don't know her. She didn't forgive. She pointed the smaller coin and asked me whether I can give it to her. I gave it, since it didn't seems like big money. She brought the coin to snack bar and bought gums. When I saw she is chewing the gum, I also want to buy gum. I went to snack bar and handdle the bigger coin to casher. She only give me 5 gums. I asked her why she give me 5 gums even she give 10 gums to other girl. What I got was 5cent, the bigger one, and what the other girl got was 10 cent, the smaller one.
One of the most afraid thing in America is obesity.
When I got in here, every student told me all people come to America get at least 10kg.
Honestly, I thought it is not applicable to me but I got weight a lot.
I got 7kg in a 2 monthes. The number of my current weightIt is the highest number in my life.
I used to thought hambuger is junk food not healty at all, but now I can't understand why hambuger is bad for health. It contain meat, fresh tomatos, lettuce, and onion. start to think hambuger is raather healty food. Pizza was meal not desserts and 2 pices of pizza was maximum that I could eat. Now, pizza just became desserts for me. It is fist time to experience my hippo becoming accordion whever I walk.

When I look back, it is really irony why I am in English education department. I liked economic classes and geographe classes from when I was in middle school. I want to be a economist or CEO. I dreamed about become Cariton Fiolina who was women hp CEO. As I read her amazing stories I really admired her and want to be amazing CEO like her. After The university enterencing exam, teacher start to students advise for their future. He keep recommend me to be a teacher like him. So I applied education department in several university. I didn't know where is kongju national university but since one of my friends' dream school was education department in kongju national university I applied. It may sound like stupid. But after I got mail that ingot admission to social education department in konju national university I was really happy since I still liked social even I may not become CEO. However as I learn in university I start to dislike social and at that time luckily I met Mike who come to social education department as his study for a six months and he volunteer to teach English to students they want. All of my friends doesn't want to go there so I had to go there alone but I met a lot of nice friends in there and Mike was really kind. The class was really warm. Everly time we drinked teas and talked. I started to like English and If I say it wasn't the reason English education seems like more prospective than social educationat all, it is lie. But it is really true I really like learning English now even mine is nit good at all. However before two years ago I was much much more terrible English speaker. One of my friend Jihye was English department student when I met her at first time in Mike's class. She horrified with my English skill and when I asked her do she think i can transfer to English department, she honestly told me she don't think so. But luckily I become English department student and now I am in Murray. It is also irony. I studied Japanese since I wanted to go japanese university when I was in high school. Studying English is sometome make me feel tired and depressed often. Especially when I compared myself with Moonkyeng or JIhye and struggling with difficult words, I feel like I am a loser and doubt about my sucessness in this field. But it is true that it is the first time to change a lot of thing I wanted and challenge many things I didn't before. I like to learn now ^_^! fighting ^^
I got package from Moonkyeong and Suhee. In th box there was a lot of retort Korean food, cookies, and letters. I was really excieted about it. My mother is kind of person who insists if you go America you have to eat the food in there not in here. So after I came here I coudnt eat Korean food except Sinramen which I can buy in wal-mart. I am not kind of active person that I am not good at making friends. For instance from very young I was really shy people that the first friend I got in my life wasn't become friend with me because of me but because of my mom. When I and mom went back home at the first day to go elementary school, my mom find one girl who was heading to same apartment alone. My mom asked her is she first grade and she introduce me and told her why don't you become q friend with my daughter. So I am really horrible to make friends. I haven't talk to strange people from myself. All the friends of mine became friend with me sice they approached me at the first time. I don't have much confidence to talk to somebody worrying about whether they don't like me. It is not a day problems worrying about my social relationship. But thankfully even I don't have many of friend there was always really nice people aroud me whenever I had a problems. I really want to say my people that thank you to talkbto me at the fist time and let me know abou you and help me without reluctences. I love you guys so much.

V for Vendetta

Yester day my roommate was planning to go to lake at night with some of her friends including me. She planned playing guitar with bone fire before weather is getting more cold. She really good at playing guitars and singing. I was really exciting about it since I hears a lot that at night Kentucky lake is really beautiful with thousands of stars. However weather got really cold at that day that the plan was changed. We watched movie together which name is "V for Vendetta" In the movie the background is in November fifth. Main character V is tring to revolution the society againsting government's corruption with terror. He said people have to make government afraid of them not they are afraid the government. He said "remember remember November fifth" That was reason why my roommate chose the movie even go to three video stores to find it. I watched the movie but I didn't know it is based on real story and the meaningful special date that it was really interesting and fun. After I came back to dorm I searched about the real story which is "gun powder plot" However the real accident wasn't happen for good will. Some of people didn't like the next king who against the catholic that they want to kill the king and change. That was real story. It was kind of sad.

Hallowen

Everyever I can see pumpkins. Dorms provide students pumpkins to make jack o Lenten. Elizabeth college made spooky house from 1floor to 9 floor. People can enter the haunted dormitory. I didn't know I have to bring something to eat that I went there without bring something. Thankfully people infront of me gave share foods that I could get in. There was a number of people who wearing skeleton make up. It looks like real make me and friend scared. In the haunted house there are crazy and cruel surgeon doing experiment with people and screaming peoples. Also there are zombies who are following us and make us freaked out. From Snakes and spiders to Jason holding power saw, it was really scaly. At the very last time, frog was in my neck since I shouted a lot. A lot of people's costume was really interesting too; Wizards, fairly, cat, michelle Jackson, etc. It was really unique and fun experience.

appearence-oriented view in Korea

Moonkung and I often talk about our apearence. Many people agree that Korea have harsh appearence-oriented view. One people said that he knew he is really ugly from when he was elementary school student. He was often called "Hey! fugly". As he grown up and after got high academic ability, he realized that apperence is not that big deal in the life. However, at the end of his writing, he added that it was possible since he is not a woman but a man. It is really hard for ugly women to live in Korea.
Many women feel they are mistrited by some of men when it compared with other pretty women. There are many newpaper indicate that many people do the plastic surgery to get nicer jobs. Plastic surgery may can give confidence to people, but the problem is it become too normal that sometimes treated ugly women like a sinner who give a harm with their faces. I try to thought why it is really serious especially in Korea. I first thougt maybe because we have all the same color of eyes and haircolor that it is hard to express their own characteristic. Also, I thought that since Korea is country where only havemanpower resources and since except few people most of their ability is same that appearnce become one of the ability. Then why women's appearence are percieved important than men's? Since Korea have long history which is men support women and family, there are pretendence preferring pliable and pretty women than smart women. Women have to get out dependence on men and need to get out of decorating themselves since we don't need to be prety. Moonkyeng said the problem of Korea is although every person is heterogeneous, they bind themselves as homogenity and try to fit themselves in social rule.

essay 2

Stability Versus Freedom: Which is More Important to Government?

The struggle between government control and individual freedom has always been an ongoing struggle. Which is more important, stability of government or freedom of public? How can a government maintain order and the safety of its people yet preserve an individual’s liberty? Niccolo Machiavelli’s “The Qualities of the Prince,” published in 1513, offers how a prince should rule a country. Henry David Thoreau, who was put in jail for refusing to pay taxes supporting the Mexican War which he considered unjust, talks about how one should be governed in “Civil Disobedience,” published in 1849. While Machiavelli emphasizes that maintaining order and control is important in government, Thoreau asserts liberty of people is important and people have an impact on their government to make it better.

Machiavelli says “the end justifies the means” (Jacobus 45) which means a ruler must not care about whether the means are moral or immoral to preserve his state. Machiavelli states that “he does not fret over the possible problems that may accompany the use of “unpleasant” means, such as punishment of upstarts, or the use of repression, imprisonment, and torture” (Jacobus 36). He insists government can do injustice behavior to their own advantage even besiege towns to your own advantage (Jacobus, 36). Thoreau’s views seem to disagree with Machiavelli’s reasoning as Thoreau insists people have to get away from expedient and do the justice behavior “cost what it may” by quoting Paley’s saying; “. never to have contemplated those cases to which the rule of expediency does not apply, in which a people, as well as an individual, must do justice, cost what it may. I f I have unjustly wrested a plank from a drowning man, I Must restore it to him through I drown myself. This, according to Paley, would be inconvenient. But he that would save his life, in such a case, shall lose it” (Jacobus 141).

In the respect of war and army, Machiavelli insists a prince have to be good at war than any other things, whereas Thoreau against even the Mexican War which could give their country a lot of advantage. Machiavelli states “A prince, therefore, must not have any other object nor any other thought, nor must he take anything as his profession, but war, its institutions” and “being disarmed makes you despised” (Jacobus 38). These statements suggest that in order to maintain a country, a ruler must always prepare for war and have strong military power. However, Thoreau states about an army as “Now what are they? Men at all? or small movable forts and magazines at the service of some unscrupulous man in power?” (Jacobus, 139). He describes men fighting in war as machines lacking morals, rather than men trying to protect country. Thoreau think war is unjust and describes men obeying governmental law even when they believe it to be unjust as “no more respect than men of straw or a lump of dirt. They have the same sort of worth only as horses and dogs”, “they are as likely to serve the Devil, without intending it, as God”, and even “painted lady” (Jacobus, 141).

According to Machiavelli who stresses the government’s physical strength, government has to control people though fear and power. Machiavelli says that “it is safer to be feared than to be loved when one of the two must be lacking. men are less hesitant about harming someone who makes himself loved than one who makes himself feared” (Jacobus 44). In this point, unlike Machiavelli’s standpoint, Thoreau emphasize government should be less controlling. He states, “I heartily accept the motto that government is best which governs not at all” (Jacobus 137). He continues that individual’s conscience is much stronger than power of government and stresses the government which doesn’t oppress people with physical power but respect; “The State never intentionally confronts a man’s sense, intellectual or moral, but only his body, his senses. It is not armed with superior wit or honesty, but with superior physical strength. I was not born to be forced. I will breathe after my own fashion. Let us see who is the strongest” (Jacobus 150).

Machiavelli insists as long as preserve government stable and prosperous, ruler’s immoral behavior doesn’t matter and even can deceive public. He state that “A wise ruler, therefore, cannot and should not keep his word when such an observance of faith would be to his disadvantage and when the reason which made him promise are removed. But it is necessary to know how to disguise this nature well and to be a great hypocrite and a liar” (Jacobus 38). Unlike Machiavelli, Thoreau emphasize on moral government comparing government to a machine and the problems of government to “friction”. Mere presence of friction is normal to a machine, however the injustice is no longer occasional but a major characteristic and demands that people cooperate with injustice, people have to against the government and change the machine; the government. He says about justice “If the injustice is part of the necessary friction of the machine of government, let it go, let it go; . but if it is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, them I say break the law” (Jacobus 145).

Machiavelli stresses government deceiving unenlightened people to maintain order and control, but at the same time Thoreau emphasizes on civil having an impact on their government. Machiavelli presents a points of view that a ruler’s actual behavior doesn’t affect their reputation since most citizens doesn’t know actually what their prince do but judge their prince fair and just if the majority think so. He stating that “And men in general judge more by their eyes than their hands; for everyone can see but few can feel. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few perceive what you are, and those few do not dare to contradict the opinion of the many who have the majesty of the state to defend them; and in the actions of all men” (Jacobus 47). Thoreau’s opinion on this are differ in which he say people should be “wise minority” resisting government that acted badly and disobey unjust laws acting on the basis of conscience. He also insists that the power of minority is enough to change government better. He respects each individual. He states, “I know this well, that if one thousand, if one hundred, if ten men whom I could name-if ten honest men only-ay, if one HONEST man in this State of Massachusetts, ceasing to hold slaves, were actually to withdraw from this containership and be locked up in the country jail therefore, it would be the abolition of slavery in America” (Jacobus 146). Thoreau’s ideal relationship between the individual and the government occurs in his description of “a really free and enlightened State” which “recognizes the individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its power and authority are derived, and treats him accordingly” and “can afford to be just to all men and to treat the individual with respect as a neighbor” (Jacobus 156). Thoreau stresses the moral government which respects each person’s conscience and follows it.

About governing countries, between the stability of government and freedom of individual has always been a controversial issue and it will be recurring. Machiavelli insists government can oppress and do the immoral behavior to protect government from other countries and make government stabilized and prosperous, whereas Thoreau asserted that government has to be small not to oppress people and people freely follow their moral conscience. The stability of government and freedom of individual are both too important to choose just one, as Machiavelli believes. Stability and safety is a basic requirement to be a better government. When government satisfies a fundamental desire such as safety, it starts to seek other yearnings like freedom and welfare. Since in Machiavelli’s time his country was threatened from other powerful countries, he doesn’t have a choice but only cares about strengthening physical power of his government to protect people of his country. In these circumstances, each individual’s rights are sacrificed easily to protect many people, on the other hand, in Thoreau’s society, his country lived well and had power enough to make their people safe. So, he insists that government has to respect each person, encourage them to express their own opinion freely, and promote reflecting public opinion in government.

pronounciation

I am helping graduate student her name is Rachel to write hergraduate papaer about how to improve Korean student's pronounciation by combine TESOL and language disorder program.
I thought it could behelpful for me too in that not only I can improve my pronounciation but also learn how to help student improve pronouciation. After some examination of my pronouciation, she told me I have problem with "z" and "ch" sound. So I am practicing this sounds by game; binggo, playing house, go fish and war ship. It sound like a little but childish but it's fun. One day I have big problem with pronouciate "blizzrd" and "cracker". Since It was really hard for me, after the practice my throat was too sore and I still have problem to pronociate the words. The other day I told someone "Where is Rachel?" and she couldn't understand what I am talking. When I told it to Rachel, she told me her name have "R", "L" and "Ch" sound that even it was really hard to pronouciate for her in childhood, so she called herself as "cha cha". It make me releif a little bit. I hope this survey help me to improve my pronouciation.

step show

I went to "step show" yesterday. Step show is dance of African-American which the paricipant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythems and sound through a mixture fo foorsteps. cpoken word, and hand claps. Before the show people make unfamiliar sound like “eeeeeeee” or “uuuuuuuu”. The people besides me told me each sound have meaning even though it is just sound to us. For example, I am not quite sure how I can describe the sound “uuuuuuu” mean “we are here.” It was exciting and everyone get into the rhythm during the show. Step show seems like mixed with current African-American and African culture to me and it was nice to see they preserve their culture and developed it in their own way. After I watched the show I was curious about it and search on the Internet and it said step show’s origin is ; African American stepping finds its origins in a combination of military close-order and exhibition drill, and African foot dances such as the Welly "gumboot" dance. It also originally drew heavily from the stage routines and movements of popular R&B groups such as the Temptations and The Four Tops. During the mid-20th century, historically-black fraternities and sororities on United States college campuses traditionally sang and chanted to celebrate "crossing over" into membership of their respective organizations. Stepping is also performed by schools, churches, cheerleading squads, and drill teams.

economic problems

I read the newspaper article about a napa cabbage is really expensive. It cost $15 per one head. One more big problem is when President in Korea heard this problems he suggested people that switch from kimchi made from napa cabbages to round cabbages. About this article public are angry that a president doesn’t know about his countries’ market situation that lettuce is also expensive; it cost $8 and even lettuce is $3.5 per 100g. It is quite serious problems that the kimchi-macking season is coming and kimchi is daily dish in Korea. Normal people can’t even eat vegetable now.
After I read about this article I seriously worry about my country. Before few days ago, in the class we talk about the gulf between rich and poor. Since we have a lot of student from many country, we talk about each countries’ situation and one American student told that Korea are becoming like America having big gap between rich and poor. In Korea, there has been a sharp increase in prices while wage didn’t rise for a wrong time. During fall break I went to Nashville and met a lot of beggars. Almost every person walking road was beggar. When I was waiting bus, one beggar approached to me and starts to talk to me. He told me he was business man and he try to get the job but fired 4 times and now he doesn’t have job after depression. He told me George Bush and Obama is crazy. I asked him why? And he told me that because he is rich and he don’t know about poor people’s situation. May be I can think that he just blame government and waste all the support money to drink and smoke, but it is really true that president doesn’t know how people in their countries live according to the cabbage article. If you ride America public bus, you can recognize that people in bus is poor even their clothes and appearance. Most of people doesn’t walk Nashville. Only beggar and traveler walk along the street I realized it. Look at the cabage article! All the time politician say a lot of sweet things but normal public can’t feel something getting better. The time pass, people getting more hard to live. I really worry about our country become country where normal people are hard to live and become country only for richpeople.

after read the Last Town on Earth

The serious disease
Thomas Mullen’s first novel, The Last Town on Earth is set in the town of Commonwealth during World War Ⅰ. Charles Worthy, the founder of the town, decides to quarantine his town from the outside to protect it from an epidemic. The main road into the village is guarded by Phillip Worthy, who was adopted by Charles Worthy, with his friend Graham Stone. When a stranger crosses the barrier begging for food and shelter, Graham shot him. Another stranger, Frank, tries to enter, and Philip could not kill him, but let him in. Philip and Frank are locked away from the town in case Frank has the flu and during their being arrested they become friends. Although the town is under quarantine, the flu suddenly attacks Commonwealth. Villagers are weakened from the disease and starving. Men from Timber Falls, a nearby town, come to arrest people who failed to register for the draft. Philip kills one of Timber Falls’ people and turns them away from Commonwealth. In this novel, we can see how justice changed as a tool of justifying injustice means for end and people under the justice of big communities lose their critical consciousness about society.
Everyone has their own justice what they think right and tries to accomplish it. In this novel Commonwealth is the world for Industrial workers built by their justice where workman’s right is respected. Charles Worthy decided to shut down the town to achieve his justice protecting their village. In Timber Fall’s case, their Justice is about patriotism, so they come to arrest those who failed to register for the draft.
Original meaning of justice must be reasonable, fair, and right. The problem is Justice cannot be always right. In many cases, it can be easily deteriorated. It becomes not actually something to be pursued but what some people insist is right. Justice is a tool for concealing the real purpose and for justifying their methods. There is a fine line between justice and justify. Men from Timber Falls know if they visit the Commonwealth when flu was not serious, they could not arrest many people. When the flu was serious, they went to Commonwealth and arrested a lot of civilians in the town without giving chances to be cured. They did not want them to be recovered because many people could go to the army or resist them. In addition, Timber Fall men also knew that they get advantage in business if Commonwealth’s mill is under crisis. They have another purpose, but they hide it under the justice and justify mistreat people under the reason that they didn’t participate in the war. Although mistreating people is not justice, they still do it and called it justice because they disobeyed the patriot act.
Even justice was fair at first Commonwealth set it which is villager’s happiness and health but when they pursue it so hard, they killed the people. When justice is chased too much, it is going to go wrong, like race horses wearing blinkers and running fast just looking ahead but not from side to side. When people pursue only their justice, they start not to care about the method, but just to care about getting their goal. A big organization like government sets their own motto which they call justice, and within the framework of motto to accomplish their purpose they don’t care whether their goal is achieved by fair means or foul. That’s why Commonwealth Fall to chaos. Phillip and Graham, the guards of town, killed the soldier who was suffering from coldness and hunger to protect their town from epidemic. They don’t know whether he had a flu or not, they just killed him under the law of quarantine. No one blames them, nevertheless, they rather told them they did right thing for the town.
Under the will of community, the people surely wouldn’t mind giving up a few civil liberties and few people’s sacrifice for contributing justice. At first, people doubted the idea of community, but they started to get used to it. Rather than critically examine the community’s moral ideas, the people in the town just follow their ideas and assume truths to make it fit their own justice. They see other people who against their faith as their enemy. They don’t question whether it is right or wrong, but just follow the rule. When Graham killed the stranger, people assumed he must be infected with flu. People in Commonwealth justified the death of soldier by saying he must have the flu and they have no choice except killing him to protect village. Of course, to some degree fear of pestilence made Graham kill the soldier, however, it would be difficult to say that Graham could kill people if he is not following the rule not to let in strangers in order to protect the town.
When people spend a long time under the communities’ justice, they become accustomed themselves to their society’s rule and lose their critical consciousness. They don’t measure whether their government doing right thing or not, but just obey what they say and think unusual situation is normal. Philip is the typical person for this instance. In novel, when Philips infected with flu virus lies in the bed and shocked by the fact that Graham killed Frank, he keeps dreaming about riding on train but doesn’t know where to go. On harshly clattering train, he had a headache and sweating from fever. While suffering on train, he starts to meet people; Frank and his mother. Once meeting them, he starts to feel better. When he meets his mother singing lullaby and gets out from train led by her, he wakes up from the dream and his cold gets better and doesn’t feel sick anymore. After he wakes up from the dream, he changed not only in his health but also in some other sides. He was young boy who couldn’t kill soldier and even hard to grasp the rifle, but after he wakes up he killed the people from the Timber Falls who trounced villagers. It’s obvious that what Timber Falls people done was really bad thing. However, it doesn’t mean they deserve to die. Philip was a person who thinks killing people cannot be justified to protect their village. He doubted his rule of society disobeying the rule and letting the stranger in who can corner villagers into a deadly situation. After he wakes up from the dream, however, he killed the person to protect his friends and villagers. He killed the person and does not have a guilty conscience. He does not cry when his sweetheart Elsie died. He thinks killing Timber Fall people is not wrong and someone has to do it. It shows how he assimilated into the community’s justice. As dreadful and anguished train become calm to Philip over time, people who examine rule of their community at first time start to assimilate the justice of society and think sacrifice and misfortune is unavoidable process to achieve the justice. In addition, they begin to get used to all of unusual situation brought by rigorous attempt for accomplishing their ends.
This book, The Last Town on Earth is warning us how people use justice as method to justify their self-interested purpose and injustice means in order to accomplish what they called justice which is degenerated into unreasonable, unfair, and wrong. The real disease is not the flu in this book, but the real sickness is losing moral consciousness. The highly contagious virus called communities’ justice makes people in society lose moral consciousness. People just follow rules and think abandonment of a few civil liberties and a few people’s sacrifice is just a matter of a course, although each individual’s liberty and happiness are an incomparable value.

Dorm door decoration

I and my roommate participated dorm door decoration competition.

We decide to decorate our door with the theme; the sea.

I drew a lot of fish on the blue paper including cute Nemo and my roommate searched on the Internet for nice words to put on; "Fish is friends not food". We colored picture with paint.
We put really cute "fox fish" like cat fish because our 5th foor of Hester dorm's theme is fox.
It was take over 3 hours but it was fun. In Korea, we can't decorate our dorm... i mean we can, but doesn't like America. We can't nail or paint walls. Can't bring other big funitures and rearrange furnicher and usually students don't put big poster on the wall. So, it was quit unique experience for me.

In addition, guess what? guess what?!

We won 1st prize in our dorm!!! MY DOOR IS AWESOME!

Murray weather

Before I go Murray, I heard Murray’s weather is exactly same with Daegu; really hot and humid in summer and freezing cold in winter. And it was exactly true when I come to Murray. I really hate it. The sun is so strong so I even could see 100spf sunscreen lotion and eye was stinging without sunglasses. During the orientation I always sweat. And the other problem was it is really hot outside but inside the building is so cold. American students look like okay staying cold building inside with shorts clothes, but many Korean students got cold.
One day, the sky was really clean, but suddenly it starts to rain, so my friend and I have to stay under the roof and waiting for the rain to stop. Rain and wind was so heavy that we felt like we are in the center of fall. Water was keep flowing above us. We were out of mind, but, on the other side, it was really fun. We said hello each other who take shelter from the rain. Some Americans took off their shoes and leaved wet footprint.
I start to like Murray’s weather now. It is warm and not humid.
Because now it’s warm so I can’t imagine how cold in here in winter. Since I prefer winter than summer and really trust that school’s heating system will be really strong as much as summer’s air-conditioning, I think I will be okay during winter in here.

Roommate

At the moment, it’s 8AM. I woke up because my roommate brings her boyfriend again. About 7days ago when I walked din to my room I could saw a naked guy on the bed. I was totally panicked. The weird thing was my roommate and the guy wasn’t panicked at all, but rather very composed. I couldn't stay my room. I get out my room and couldn’t do anything but cried. After I composed I went my room with my friend and asked her what is going on at midnight. She told me that he is her fiancé. She said, “He is lie on my bed not your bed so nothing is problem. You can just stay in the room and sleep on your bed. You don’t have to care about it.” As a one more important information, the bed in out room is a bunk bed. She will sleep under my bed with the guy wearing just underwear. How I can stay my room as if nothing is happening? Is it normal? I couldn’t stay my room anymore and have to get out. I didn’t have any place to stay I keep cried. Here are so harsh and now I even lose the place I stay the home to rest. Next day when I get in to room and saw torchiere she bought, I was shaking with fear whether she married yesterday and lives with him in here forever. I made rush for a front desk and ask isn’t it against a dorm regulation. But they told me it is possible. It was totally culture shock. In Korea, women and men don’t share same building and we can’t bring outsiders in the room.
Few hours later….
I moved my dorm! Finally! I am so happy! My new roommate is so nice. She brought her friend and we watched the movie together eating pizza.

Murray

This is what I talked with my American professor in home university on facebook after I came here.
I: I’m in Murray, Kentucky!!!
The professor: Murray, Kentucky is an awfully small city. It has about 17,000 people while Kongju has 145,000. Way smaller than Pyeongtaek. Unfortunately, you're not even legal to drink until your next birthday.
I: Don't make me desperate TT. I have to stay here in a year. Can't drink in here is really nice thing! If I could drink in this awful city, I must be an alcoholic. My roommate is nightmare TT. She is like a reptile. She doesn’t know how to smile. She doesn’t have any friends. She even doesn’t go out to eat lunch or dinner. She just stuck in her room all the time.
The professor: A year?!? I thought you were on the 4-week program. Get out, get out now. There's no way you'll make it a year. I couldn't live there for a year and I'm American.
I have experience living in America before for six-month. It was wonderful and beautiful city San-Antonio!!! Near my house, there was wonderful outdoor swimming pool and Sea world was only one hour by car! Every weekend my family travel all around America. We went Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Dallas, Oklahoma, Rocky Mountains and so on. That was the impression I got about America. I dream about traveling around Murray. But there is no bus or train here. I have a drive license but I can’t rent a car since I’m under 21.
When I looked forward to going to Murray, I was filled with dream getting out from small city Kong-ju and broadening my vision in big country America. But here was totally different with what I expected. I don’t have anything to do at weekend. I am in foreign country now, but talking with my family or friend on the Internet is the funniest time.
But class in here is really exciting. Students give their opinion freely while professor are giving lecture. Students share ideas and information. Professor gives a lot of assignment. And I met many nice Chinese friends. They always help me whenever I have problems.
